About Secure 2.0
“One of the most challenging parts of dealing with Secure 2.0 is the sheer number of provisions, each with different effective dates,” says Sarah Brenner, director of retirement education at Ed Slott and Company.
The training provided a review of the impact of the SECURE Act on spouse and non-spouse beneficiaries. Other topics included a 2022 tax update overview covering the IRS’s new tax tables and retirement plan contribution, and a survey of some of the planning options, rules and methods for 72(t) payments. The workshop also dived into the IRS’s most recent 2022 SECURE Act Regulations, which provides guidance on many aspects of the law. Some of the highlighted topics included eligible designated beneficiaries (EDBs), how to determine the eligibility of EDBs, successor beneficiaries and the impact of SECURE Act regulations on trusts, to name but a few. Guest speakers Jeffrey Levine, CPA/PFS, CFP® and Shannon L. Evans, J.D gave presentations on estate planning themes and trends, and strategies to avoid family feuds and estate planning disasters.
